In 1951, Sir Hugh Beaver, then General Manager of the Brewery Guinness, during a hunting
came to a disagreement over whether gold or pewit grouse was the earliest bird in Europe. Then realized that if there was a book that would answer such a question would be very popular. And he was right!
The idea of Sir Hugh became reality when Norris and Ross Makouirter, who had a news agency in London, took the command to write the The Guinness Book of Records. The first version was released on August 27, 1955, and climbed on top of the British list of best-selling, Christmas of that year. The first book
